Nieuwe Markt 1, 9712KN Groningen GroningenJohn Cassavetes' beautifully filmed and acted penultimate film is an essay on cynicism, responsibility and love.
The film tells the story of a middle-aged brother (played by John Cassavetes himself) and sister (Gena Rowlands) who rely on each other after being abandoned by their loved ones.
Although Cassavetes directed another feature film after this drama at the request of friend Peter Falk (A Woman Under the Influence), it is Love Streams that constitutes his magnificent final opus. His career as a film director and as a pioneer of American independent film culminated in this rich, original and emotionally masterful 1984 drama. It is one of his most maddening films, but also one of his most wonderful and special.
The whole of August, In honor of the 50th anniversary of A Woman Under the Influence (1974), we will be showing the best films by the pioneer of American independent film: John Cassavetes.
