Kruissingel, 9712 XN GroningenMore than ten years ago, Mathijs Deen spent a year wandering the islands in the north for his book about the Wadden. The idiosyncratic world of the overseas world grabbed him and never let him go. When a German publisher asked him if he would also like to try writing Wadden crime novels, he seized the opportunity to return to the world outside the dikes that we share with the Germans. Would the occasionally idyllic image he sketched of the Wadden in 2013 hold up in stories where earthly concerns such as murder and manslaughter predominate?
