Wolddijk 103, 9738 AD GroningenSunday Stroll Through the Meadows Around the Reitdiep Visitor Centre
The Reitdiep is the oldest cultural area in the Netherlands. In the early Middle Ages, it was one of the wealthiest and most densely populated regions of Western Europe. This pristine area is now designated as a meadow bird reserve. The management focuses on preserving the meadow birds that migrate here from Southern Europe and Africa to forage and breed.
Dogs are not allowed
Enjoy a pleasant Sunday walk, guided by an expert, of about 2.5 km through the meadows around the Reitdiep Visitor Centre: a centuries-old and culturally rich landscape with often stunning Groningen cloud formations. This walk is available on several dates in 2025:
March 9, March 23, April 13, April 27, May 11, June 1, August 10, and September 14.
This walk will partly take place through the meadows, an ideal spot for meadow birds. In some fields, livestock may be grazing. If we pass quietly by, it will not be an issue. The ground can be muddy, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Dress appropriately for a meadow walk in any season. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera!
