Op Maarhuizen
Op Maarhuizen is located on the historic terp (man-made mound) of Maarhuizen, about 2.5 km north of Winsum. This centuries-old site includes the monumental farmhouse Enne Jans Heerd, a protected heritage building, surrounded by three restored farmsteads and landscaped gardens in the northern Groningen countryside.
Since 2023, the site has been transformed into a public venue for nature, culture, and community events. Visitors can enjoy a café serving local food and drinks, as well as performances held in the historic barn or outdoors in the gardens and on the terp.
Op Maarhuizen also hosts small-scale private events such as weddings, workshops, meetings, and cultural gatherings. Through collaborations with organizations like Staatsbosbeheer, it has become a unique destination where heritage, nature, and creativity meet.
For walkers, there is a 2.1 km audio walking tour starting from Enne Jans Heerd, guiding visitors past the burial grounds, water features, and historical landscape of the terp—ideal for a reflective, narrative experience in nature.
