Our information center in Bourtange is located within the interactive Terra Mora museum. Three themes play a central role here, including nature and landscape. Visuals, interactivity, education, and movement are key aspects of Terra Mora. A must-visit if you want to actively experience Bourtange and its surroundings!

Rich History and Beautiful Nature

Who hasn't heard of Bourtange: a fortress town with a history that sparks the imagination. Every year, tens of thousands of visitors come to see the old fortress with its earthen walls, shooting holes, and the annually reenacted battle.

Not only the fortress but also the nature reserve around Bourtange is steeped in military history. However, the sounds of battle have long been replaced by the croaking of frogs and the sharp call of the shrike.

What to Do?

In 1939 we made our first purchase in Bourtange, and it didn’t stop there. How we strive to reduce nutrients in Bourtange’s nature areas to create a wider variety of flora and fauna is explained at Terra Mora. Enthusiastic volunteers organize various activities and excursions in and around Bourtange. Definitely worth joining!
