Uithuizen

Uithuizen in the Groninger Hogeland

Uithuizen is one of the larger villages in the Groninger Hogeland. The village has nearly 5,500 residents and is located in the northern part of this characteristic cultural landscape. The Hogeland is known for its wide open fields, dikes, and farms, and also for its true countryside feel.

History and culture

Uithuizen has a long history, with the Menkemaborg as its main attraction - a stately old house that now serves as a museum. The village also has a medieval church and several beautiful old farms. Culturally, there’s often something going on, from village festivals to local events, and you’ll still hear a lot of the local Gronings dialect.

Accessibility

Uithuizen is easy to reach, despite its location in the north of Groningen. There's a direct train from the city of Groningen that takes about 45 minutes. Uithuizen is also easy to access by car via the N46 and N363. Cyclists and hikers can enjoy scenic routes through the open countryside.
