This sultry, misty-eyed anti-western follows gambler and entrepreneur John McCabe (Warren Beatty), who teams up with the clever and shrewd brothel owner Mrs Miller (Julie Christie) to set up a business in a rough pioneer town.

What begins as an opportunistic partnership slowly turns into something more fragile - against the backdrop of snow, mud, and encroaching “civilisation” in the form of a ruthless mining company. With his loose narrative structure, natural acting and Leonard Cohen's mesmerising soundtrack, Altman evaporates the myths of the Wild West into a human story.
