On November 5, Americans will choose their new president. Will Donald Trump, despite the various lawsuits against him, return to the White House? Or will Kamala Harris become America's first female president? The biggest political show on earth is likely to become a neck and neck race. More than ever, the choice between a republican or a democrat will determine the course of the country. Consider, for example, the rights of women and minorities and America’s position in the world. 

 

Whatever the results may be, Forum Groningen has got you covered with our traditional Election Night party. We'll provide an interactive, fun and interesting program into the early hours, to ensure you'll not only stay up to date and understand the elections thoroughly, but that you also have a good time. We'll provide talks and lectures on important societal issues at play in US society and inform you about American culture and politics. For instance, Bright Lights Podcast hosts Peter Kwint and Peter Bootsman will tell tales of country music and the elections, Hans Klis joins the evening to provide us with surprising and at times disconcerting stories from his latest book Help, de president is gek geworden (Help, the president has gone mad), will Volkskrant's popjournalist Menno Pot enlighten us about the influence major popstars like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift have on politics, is activist and abortion doctor Dr. Rebecca Gomperts with us to talk about her work as founder of AidAccess, Women on Waves and Women on Web, and her quest to make abortion pills accessible to women in the US, will Filmkrant journalist Hugo Emmerzael provide a filmlecture about how presidents are depicted in films and series and America singer-songwriter Hilde Vos will be here so you can get your feet off the floor. Numerous researchers are present to talk about the role of religion in US politics, the US's role as a military superpower, as well as discussing the presidential candidates and much more! 

 

Additionally, we will host a pub quiz, there will be an American Fair, you can test your time on the mechanical bull and show off your cheerleading skills. As the night progresses and the first results come in, we will keep everyone awake with fitness, games, donuts, coffee and music. 

 

Note: Election Night USA will take place in multiple areas in Forum Groningen. In the weeks leading up to the event the timetable will be published on this page. The entire program will be in English.
