We Are the Groningse Onderstroom

The Groningse Onderstroom is a vibrant mix of housing groups, action groups, artist collectives, squatters, music makers and neighborhood initiatives.

We come together to defend the importance of free space in the city—spaces where culture and nature can organically find their way. These rough edges are constantly pressured by the capitalist system and the government’s neoliberal priorities. We forge a network of alternatives to stand stronger together against all forms of oppression.

With this manifestation we show what we stand for: people taking matters into their own hands, making the world more beautiful from the bottom up—by working together, letting creativity flow, experiencing the richness of community and organizing horizontally.
