Obie Trice might be best known for his early 2000s hit ‘Got Some Teeth’, produced by Eminem. The rapper emerged from his city’s vibrant rap scene around the turn of the millennium as a companion of Eminem — easily the most successful story in Detroit hip hop. Trice’s irreverent, gritty style falls right in line with peers like D12 and Royce da 5’9”. That same energy runs through his hungry debut studio album Cheers, released on Eminem’s Shady Records.

Obie Trice III was born and raised on the west side of Detroit, Michigan by his mother, along with three brothers. He is of African-American and distant European descent. Trice received a karaoke machine from his mother when he was eleven, which he used to rhyme over instrumental tracks by artists like N.W.A. By the time he was fourteen, he was attending rap battle meetups in Detroit. He initially called himself Obie 1, but soon began performing under his real name. He met Eminem through D12 member Bizarre — and the rest is history.

Don’t miss your chance to see this Detroit hip hop legend live in Groningen when he hits Simplon this autumn!
