Trompsingel 27, 9724 DA Groningen

Tuesday, November 5th is ‘Election Day’ in the States, and that means a nerve-wracking evening, but at the same time a wonderful moment to immerse yourself in the Soul Of America during our own election night at De Oosterpoort.

SPOT Groningen and Yankees Streetfood have looked each other in the eye and this has resulted in an evening with performances by ‘Daptone & Colemine’s finest’; Thee Sinseers & The Altons and The Sugarman 3 meets Scone Cash Players. Think of it as a half-time show for the elections, but without all the fuss, because musical quality takes precedence. And because quality is also the motto of the brand new Yankees Streetfood in Groningen, we leave the feeding of the inner soul to them tonight. Plenty of room to get acquainted with Yankees, top-of-the-bill all-American soul music, and that traditional feeling of ‘The Tuesday next after the first Monday in November’!

YANKEES STREETFOOD
What is an ‘Election Day’ without the flavors of the country itself? Yankees Streetfood brings the real taste of America to Groningen with their fresh and authentic American street food. From classic hot dogs, churros, and mac & cheese to corn dogs. Every bite is a journey through the streets of America. Taste THE ‘Soul of America’ while enjoying top-of-the-bill Soul Music!

THEE SINSEERS & THE ALTONS
Thee Sinseers, led by multi-instrumentalist Joey Quinones, are known for their captivating live performances and their impressive album “Sinseerly Yours”. Their rendition of “Seems Like” went viral with over a million views, and the band excels in Chicano soul with lush arrangements and sharp playing. Over the past five years, the group has worked hard on their R&B and soul sound, creating a unique, modern interpretation of this timeless genre.

From the same talented group emerged The Altons, a band that combines retro indie-soul and soul rock with Latin influences and has been enchanting local audiences for years. The members of both bands ensure an evening full of modern, contemporary soul, with The Altons’ intense grooves and soulful leads guaranteeing an energetic show. Both bands deliver a rich musical experience that honors the history of soul music.

THE SUGARMAN 3 meets SCONE CASH PLAYERS

The Sugarman 3 offers a small space-time journey that is cool and funky. This quartet, founded in 1996 in New York by saxophonist Neal Sugarman (founder of the famous Daptone Records label and the Dap-Kings), decided to breathe new life into the soul of the golden age, that of the 60s, of James Brown, Aretha Franklin, or Wilson Pickett, and the jazz of the legendary Blue Note productions. With four albums whose motto “guaranteed heavy heavy funk” sets the tone, these Americans have managed to recapture the spirit, taste, and craftsmanship of a period we thought was gone, in the form of original compositions or covers that seem to come straight from the soundtracks of 60s films. “Let’s dance!”.

Scone Cash Players, a band from Miami, is led by the legend of the Hammond organ, Adam Scone, known for his soul-jazzeries with the Sugarman 3 and long-time musician with Daptone. With his organ as the main vocalist, Scone and his cosmic choir offer a funky and psychedelic experience that takes you on a journey to the edges of the soul-jazz universe. Their new album, the Brazil-influenced *Brooklyn to Brooklin* (Daptone Records), is unlike any other organ album ever recorded. Both funky and tropical, this album gives you the feeling of lying on the beach all day and dancing all night!
