Classics: The Room
Cinema Forum Groningen
Nieuwe Markt 1, 9712KN Groningen GroningenThe Room, produced, written, directed, acted and fully paid for by Tommy Wiseau, is also called 'the Citizen Kane of bad movies' and 'the worst movie ever'. So bad that it becomes very entertaining again.
With The Room, director, writer, producer and lead actor Tommy Wiseau seriously made one of the most bizarre films ever. Clothing changes color between scenes, cameras fly back and forth on axes, and plot lines are thrown in haphazardly and never completed. For example, one of the leading actresses suddenly, in the middle of a conversation, casually announces that she has breast cancer. And that will never be returned to.
Wiseau replaced his crew twice due to disagreements over the film. Large parts of the film were dubbed because the script was adjusted after shooting. The original script was much longer but was heavily changed by the actors on set. An anonymous actor said: 'The script contained stuff that was just unsayable. I know it's hard to imagine there was stuff that was worse. But there was.'
The Room was so utterly destroyed by American critics that the film became an absolute cult phenomenon. The hilarity is at its best in a room full of fans, so bring all your friends and come experience this classic – complete with plastic cutlery and other traditions associated with screening the legendary film.
