In Eleanor the Great, June Squibb (Thelma) gives a phenomenal performance in the title role of feisty 94-year-old Eleanor, who tells a story that takes on a life of its own.

Eleanor Morgenstein has always been very involved with the people around her. After a death that turns her world upside down, she decides to move from Florida to New York. She moves in with her daughter and grandson in the hope of strengthening their family bond, but there she only feels lonely and invisible. 

One day, she accidentally ends up at a support group where she tells a story that unintentionally draws a lot of attention. While a young journalism student sees her as a friend and mentor, the consequences for Eleanor are incalculable. When the situation finally threatens to get out of hand, she can no longer ignore the truth. Scarlett Johansson's directorial debut tackles themes such as old age, family, grief and betrayal. It is a story about friendship and history that shows how complicated we can be as human beings.
