Tom Smith
Nieuwe Kerk
Nieuwe Kerkhof 1, 9712 PT GroningenTom Smith, known as the lead singer of Editors, is bringing his first solo project to Groningen. After twenty years with Editors, Smith is now opting for a more intimate approach. His new work is acoustic, introspective, and written on piano or guitar. The melancholic songs stay closer to their origins and reveal a different side of Smith. In his first single, Lights Of New York City, the sense of nostalgia is unmistakable. Perfect for the intimate setting of the Nieuwe Kerk!
About his temporary step back from Editors, Tom says:
“I realised that artistically I wanted to create something that is a purer representation of the songs I write – the way I always do, on an acoustic guitar or piano, presented simply. I have no idea whether it’s folky, country-ish or crooner-like; I’ve just always felt the urge to write sad songs. Usually, those songs grow into something else with the band (Editors) – something bigger, often something more confrontational. But with this solo project, I wanted to keep the recordings simpler, closer to the ideas as I originally conceived them.”
