About the festival
The Potato Festival 2025 will take place on Saturday, October 11, in and around the village inn Wongema in Hornhuizen, Groningen. The festival celebrates the potato as a symbol of love, community, and regional culture. Visitors of all ages are welcome to join the festivities.
Theme and activities
This year’s theme is Patatje Vrede, honoring the potato as a connecting force. The festival offers a wide range of activities, including building a potato world with small figurines, screen printing T-shirts, temporary tattoos, and other creative workshops.
Culinary program
The culinary program is one of the highlights of the festival. There is a four-course potato dinner at four locations in the village (tickets limited), a “day stamp” for a simple meal, and freshly fried fries on the square, so everyone can enjoy the versatility of the potato.
Potato art and excursions
Art enthusiasts can visit exhibitions by the Potato-in-Residence and the Potato Expo, featuring submitted photos of unusual potato shapes. There are also excursions to local potato farmers, such as the Westers family, providing a behind-the-scenes look at potato cultivation.
Music and entertainment
The festival is accompanied by live performances from various artists, including the band Sunday Kids. The combination of music, art, food, and activities makes the Potato Festival a festive day for young and old alike.
