This summer, the Akerk in Groningen offers a special treat for Bach enthusiasts. In its beautiful and atmospheric setting, the Luthers Bach Ensemble will present a program featuring four remarkable works by Johann Sebastian Bach. Among them is the cantata Herr, wie du willt, so schicks mit mir, one of Bach’s most beloved and masterfully composed cantatas from his early years in Leipzig. The program also includes two vibrant sinfonias and a unique performance of Bach’s Concerto for Two Harpsichords—adapted for two chest organs played by Robert Koolstra and Tymen Jan Bronda. These instruments, built by the renowned Ahrend company, offer a new perspective on a piece originally intended for harpsichords, presenting an exciting challenge for the performers. The evening concludes with a refreshing summer drink for the audience. The ensemble, made up of a small choir, soloists, and a baroque orchestra, is led by artistic director Tymen Jan Bronda.
