Vampires have firmly embedded themselves in film history. From the original Dracula himself to the toxic vromance between Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in Interview with the Vampire and even an overly glittery Robert Pattinson in Twilight... Vampires are the wet dreams of the big screen.

But the coolest (half) vampire of them all is D: an unemotional dhampyr who is even more stoic than Clint Eastwood and travels as a lone bounty hunter in a distant future on a Gothic Earth. D is tasked with tracking down Charlotte Elbourne, a young woman who has been kidnapped by vampire nobleman Meier Link. Caught between his two natures, feared by all, tormented and alone, D begins his hunt.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is a standalone sequel to the original 1985 OVA, based on the novels by Hideyuki Kikuchi. With vampires that are as hybrid as they are monstrous, the film hovers somewhere between post-apocalyptic western, the Castlevania games, Lovecraftian horror, dark fantasy and gothic romance – with a criminally handsome (anti)hero on a cyber horse. The whimsical, stylish characters (designed by Yoshitaka Amano) and richly animated, bloody action scenes make Bloodlust a cult classic as immortal as its protagonist. This ultimate gothic fever dream is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and Kaboom can't let that pass unnoticed.
