Santrofi – Highlife from Ghana

Santrofi creates highlife with a distinctive seventies sound, full of groovy guitars and polyrhythmic afro-beats. Highlife is a rhythmic music style from West Africa where traditional African rhythms blend with influences from the Western music world.

Santrofi is an eight-piece ensemble from Accra, founded by bassist and producer Emmanuel Ofori (known for work with Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas). The band is named after a brightly coloured bird from Akan mythology, a symbol of prosperity and music. With their new album Making Moves, Santrofi bridges traditional highlife with today’s afrobeat and trap scene in Ghana. Live, the band bursts with energy, groovy guitars, dynamic rhythms and a vintage sound.
