Getting Lost

A sensory experience

Walking through the Groningen countryside lets you experience the landscape with all your senses. You hear birds, see the light change, smell the grass or the earth after rain, and feel the ground beneath your feet. Each season and every path brings new impressions, even when you walk the same route more than once. It offers a calm way to get to know the surroundings and to feel part of them.

Connecting with the land

According to professor Zef Hemel, walking can help us reconnect with the layered landscape. In a society often focused on speed and efficiency, walking creates space to slow down. The land then speaks more clearly and raises questions: how did it come to be shaped this way, and what stories are hidden within it? In this way, walking encourages curiosity about the history and character of the environment.

Exhibiting artists

The exhibition Getting Lost presents how various artists portray the landscape and the experience of walking. More than thirty artists take part, including Geert Schreuder, Marjan Geboers, Judith Lechner, Fiona Zondervan, and many others.

MOW young — for children

For children aged 8 to 12, there is a special backpack filled with assignments and surprises. Without a fixed route, they can find their own way through the galleries and discover the exhibition in a playful way.

Step outside

Alongside the exhibition itself, walks through Westerwolde are part of the side program. This gives visitors the chance to experience the landscape beyond the museum walls as well.
