Seal Watching Wall at Punt van Reide

Seal Watching Wall at Punt van Reide

From spring to autumn, the seal watching wall is set up along the sea dyke at Termunten, near the Punt van Reide. This is a rare opportunity to spot seals and their pups in their natural habitat, without disturbing them! It’s an extraordinary location in the Netherlands, perfect for nature enthusiasts looking to enjoy wildlife up close. On your way back you can take a peak at Vogelkijkhut De Kiekkaaste.

A Unique Natural Experience

At the seal watching wall in Termunten, visitors can enjoy an up-close view of seals and their pups from behind special viewing windows. This allows you to observe these magnificent creatures in complete peace, without them noticing you. The Dollard estuary is known for its sandbanks that lie close to the shore, making it the perfect breeding ground for seals—also known as the “maternity ward” of the Wadden Sea.

Every high tide, seal mothers and their pups gather by the dyke to rest, feed, and sunbathe, sometimes in large groups numbering in the hundreds. It’s a breathtaking natural phenomenon that you can enjoy at your own pace, without causing any disturbance to the seals.

Important Tips for Visitors

While you enjoy this stunning sight, it’s important to stay behind the wall and refrain from making noise. To ensure the seals are not disturbed, a surveillance camera is in place. This allows everyone to experience the spectacle in a peaceful and responsible manner.
