For the better part of a decade, LA’s scrappy rock n’ roll mystics Death Valley Girls have challenged the soul-crushing banality of modern society through the collage of scorching protopunk riffs, earworm melodies, far-out lyrics and psychedelic instrumentation.
The seeds for their most recent album Islands in the Sky were planted while songwriter Bonnie Bloomgarden was bed-ridden with a mysterious illness. Before her illness, Bloomgarden’s primary focus was writing songs to help other people deal with their own suffering. But something in her shifted, and she began to turn her focus inward. At its core, Islands in the Sky is a party—a riotous, danceable, sing-a-long celebration of life, love, and mystery.
Mo Bedick will be returning to VERA as support for this night. The name might confuse you with the dusty old novel by Herman Melville, but Mo Bedick is anything but dusty! The band redifines psychedelic indie with great ambitions. Inspired by the greatest hits of shoegaze, psych rock, hip hop and future jazz, Mo Bedick will hypnotize its listeners with unique and enchanting melodies, creating a Disney-like feeling.
