Serial Mom: the perfect suburban housewife who will do anything for her nuclear family: cleaning the house, cooking delicious meals, recycling the garbage and gruesome murders. This John Waters cult classic is so ridiculous that it’s fantastic. 

John Waters rose to fame with transgressive cult films such as Multiple Maniacs and Pink Flamingos. With a sloppy looking but thoughtful DIY aesthetic, flamboyant gender-queer characters and shocking scenes, he pushed hard at the established order and Hollywood’s censorship. Waters quickly became a well-known, if not infamous name in the United States and in the 1980’s he began practicing more approachable style and story techniques, moving more into mainstream film with iconic pictures such as Hairspray and Cry-Baby. 

With superb performances by Kathleen Turner and Sam Waterston, gory acts of revenge, an action packed police chase and even an appearance of L7, this film has it all. What better way to end this Zienema season? Be there or be square!
