Schoem is a poetic drama by directors Vida Kashani and Amir Komelizadeh, exploring themes of identity, belonging and change.

Set against the backdrop of the wild beauty of the Wadden Sea and the lively streets of Groningen, the film follows Hades, a young skipper struggling to cope with his family falling apart.

The film focuses on contradictions that resonate with the directors' personal experiences: belonging and feeling lost, tradition and modern life, stability and change. These themes reflect the universal search for a sense of home, especially for those navigating between cultures or displaced from familiar roots. The screenplay was inspired by author Ingeborg Nienhuis' book Schoem of De voarende Zoltkamper.

The Wadden Sea reflects the emotional ups and downs of Hades, while the city brings chaos but also new opportunities. Schoem is about those moments in life when everything feels uncertain and you are forced to grow. It is a story about finding connection in surprising ways and learning to accept change.
