Fritz Lang's impressive German expressionist masterpiece heralded the science fiction genre 100 years ago. This beautiful nightmare of a film classic can now be seen on our big screen with live music by Kinetophone. 

Metropolis - the year 2027: humanity is divided into a thinking class and a working class. The son of a capitalist falls in love with the charismatic Maria, who preaches against the use of violence to the workers. However, she is a threat to the wealthy class, and they decide to enlist the scientist Rotwang to develop a robot that looks just like Maria, so that it can take her place.

The story goes that legendary filmmaker Fritz Lang was so overwhelmed by the Manhattan skyline during his first visit to America in 1924 that he decided to make a film about the city of the future. This eventually became the silent film classic Metropolis, written by Lang's wife Thea von Harbou. This cinematic marvel remains one of the most influential science fiction films in film history.
