Microscopy Afternoon ‘Take a Look’

Have you always wanted to look through a microscope? Then Saturday, November 8, 2025, is your chance.

Microscopes will be set up at several public locations in the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe on this day. The Microscopy Day is an initiative by the University of Groningen. The first edition took place in 2023. IVN Noord-Groningen is participating again this year, probably in the large greenhouse at Ewsum (Middelstum).

There will be 2 microscopes available and several binocular microscopes.
With a microscope, you can, for example, view cells that are too small to see with the naked eye. A binocular microscope is a kind of magnifying glass that you look through with both eyes at the same time. This allows you to examine insects better, for example.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own objects to examine if they like. IVN Noord-Groningen will provide natural objects, such as butterflies, feathers, etc., that can be viewed under the microscope.
