Mozart's Requiem
Martinikerk
Martinikerkhof 3, 9712 JG Groningen
Requiem
Mozart's Requiem became known to the general public through the film 'Amadeus' and is perhaps the most impressive work of this composer who died young. Mozart wrote it just before his own death, commissioned by an anonymous client. The Requiem evokes feelings of mourning, fear and sadness. But at the same time also hope, light and beauty.
Coronation Mass
The festive Coronation Mass presents a completely different Mozart. At the coronation of the King of Bohemia, the archbishop decreed that the mass should not last longer than 25 minutes. Despite, or perhaps because of this restriction, the mass radiates vitality and energy.
Miserere Mei
The concert opens with the impressive a capella Miserere Mei by Allegri with the spectacular High C for soprano.
