A new era calls for a new soundtrack. Experience the hypnotic power of percussion music and video projections in a surreal world of plastic waste.

Rogier de Nijs (composer and percussionist) continues to find inspiration in this age of waste and pollution. On the International Day of Sustainability, you can witness The Soundtrack of the Plastic Age live at Forum. Together with two other percussionists, De Nijs performs using instruments and in an apocalyptic setting made entirely from recycled plastic materials.

Before the performance, there will be an introductory talk by Gita Maas from the North Sea Foundation. How can we stop the flow of plastic into our oceans? What’s being found on our beaches? Plastic remains the main culprit (89%), but how can we reduce it if global plastic production continues to rise and countries struggle to reach agreements?

This program is part of the Sustainability Week 2025 by the University of Groningen. You can find the full program here: Sustainability Week 2025 | Sustainability | University of Groningen
