Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental masterpiece about the betrayal, suffering and death on the cross of Jesus manages to move thousands of people, year after year, sometimes to tears, and, according to Paul Witteman, succeeds in “bringing non-believers to the brink of conversion one day a year.” With the Noord Nederlands Orkest, the Groninger Children and Youth Choir, the Roden Girl Choristers, conductor Geert-Jan van Beijeren Bergen en Henegouwen and baritone Maarten Koningsberger in the role of Jesus.
