Boekenclub 'Zondagskracht' van Judith Visser

Nieuwe Ebbingestraat 1, 9712 NB GroningenRecently, the third part of Judith Visser’s autobiographical trilogy was released: Sunday Strength. It is a fascinating story about her life as an autistic writer, filled with insights about publishing a book, dealing with overwhelming stimuli in relationships, and of course, her deep love for her wolfdogs.
The first two parts of this trilogy are Sunday Child and Sunday Life. The books follow Jasmijn Vink, Judith Visser’s alter ego (also JV…), with each part highlighting a phase in her life. In Sunday Child, young Jasmijn is in kindergarten and only speaks to her parents. The stories are surprising, vivid, and sprinkled with humor, but above all, they show how difficult it is to live with autism and how much misunderstanding there is.
The books can be read individually, although together they provide a fuller picture. Besides the central theme of autism, several other storylines weave through the books, making them varied and engaging.
Although the story is autobiographical, it is presented in novel form and does not have to fully reflect Judith Visser’s life. At the end of the last book, she provides an explanation about this herself.
There is plenty to discuss together. Whether you have read one, several, or none of her books, you are warmly invited to join. Highly recommended for everyone!
